The number that decides heat pump against boiler is not an efficiency multiple from a brochure. It is your electricity price divided by your gas price, adjusted for how well the boiler really runs.

Note: The 4-pipe heat pump chiller is deliberately absent from this calculator. Its published figure is a total COP counting heat and cool delivered together, so it cannot be compared against a heating-only crossover. Where simultaneous demand exists, the comparison is against a boiler and a chiller, not a boiler alone.
